Annika Kahm has been treating eating disorders and disordered eating for over 35 years. With a wealth of experience, she has co-authored four books and is an active member of The Academy of Eating Disorders, the National Eating Disorder Association, and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. Annika’s approach is informed by her own personal journey with anorexia and bulimia during her teens and early twenties, which has fueled her lifelong dedication to helping others who struggle with similar challenges.
Annika is a pioneer in integrating metabolic testing and body composition analysis into eating disorder treatment, having learned these techniques from Carolyn Hodges Chafee. Together, they co-authored Measuring Health from the Inside to demonstrate the value of these tools in providing deeper insights into health, particularly in the context of eating disorder recovery.
Nick Kahm, Annika’s son, transitioned from academia to the healthcare field, bringing his passion for philosophy and teaching into his current role. Nick was previously a member of the philosophy faculty at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, where he published a book and several articles on the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. However, his academic career did not align with the life he envisioned for his family.
Inspired by the success stories he heard throughout his life about his mother’s work in eating disorder treatment, Nick encouraged Annika to partner with him in establishing the Kahm Clinic. Their shared goal was to train other professionals in the use of metabolic testing and body composition analysis, tools that have proven life-changing for many patients.
Now fully dedicated to running The Kahm Center for Eating Disorders, Nick is passionate about expanding access to high-quality, personalized care in Vermont.
The Kahm Center for Eating Disorders was established to address the significant need for PHP and IOP services in Vermont. We are a Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care for individuals aged 16 and up, of all genders, and with all types of eating disorder diagnoses.
At The Kahm Center, we prioritize a patient-centered approach, focusing on individualized treatment plans and maintaining small group sizes to provide the highest quality of care. Our experienced team understands the complexities of eating disorders and is here to support each patient’s unique journey toward recovery. Our mission is to create a supportive, family-like environment where excellence in care is at the forefront.
Our team is committed to helping you or your loved one take the first step toward recovery, ensuring that each patient receives the personalized medical and therapeutic care they need. Annika and Nick’s vision for the center combines their deep expertise in eating disorder treatment with advanced metabolic testing and body composition analysis. By focusing on re-nourishing patients effectively, we enhance the impact of therapeutic interventions, recognizing that a well-nourished brain is essential for successful therapy.
As a small, private, Vermont-based practice, we are committed to fostering a close-knit, family-like environment that embodies excellence in care. Located in the heart of Burlington, The Kahm Center offers a welcoming and intimate setting for recovery. Our goal is to provide a supportive community where patients can focus on their journey toward healing, free from stigma and with the best possible care guiding their way.
