Initial Contact

Reach out either as a self-referral or through a provider.
Verification of Benefits

We collect insurance information and verify your coverage.
Intake Assessment

A clinician assesses your symptoms, medical history, and care needs.
Determining the Right Care Level

Based on the intake assessment, we recommend the most suitable level of care: PHP/IOP at the Kahm Center, a referral to a residential program if a higher level of care is needed, or a recommendation to continue with their outpatient provider(s) if a higher level of care is not warranted We can also provide outpatient referrals for anyone who does not currently have a team in place.
Admissions

Once the appropriate level of care is confirmed, we guide patients through orientation and into their treatment program.

How quickly can a patient be assessed after initial contact?

A key advantage of the Kahm Center is our rapid intake assessment process. Unlike the long waiting periods common for therapy appointments, we prioritize swift access to care. Intake assessments are typically scheduled within a few days of the initial contact, allowing those in need to begin their recovery journey without delay.

This commitment to quick, accessible care supports our clients’ path to recovery from the start. Typically, we can admit patients within a week of assessment.

How long does the evaluation process take?

Our evaluation is a one-hour intake assessment with a clinician. During this time, we assess the patient’s symptoms, background, care needs, and goals. At the end of the assessment, patients receive a diagnosis and a recommendation for the appropriate level of care, whether that’s our PHP, IOP, or referral to a higher level of care if needed.

What if I don’t have a formal eating disorder diagnosis but suspect I might need help?

If you’re unsure about whether you have an eating disorder or the severity of your symptoms, we provide a clear and timely evaluation. This intake assessment offers an immediate diagnostic service, helping you understand your needs.

If our PHP or IOP program is a fit, we’ll guide you into the most suitable treatment pathway; if not, we’re transparent and will offer guidance on the best course of action.

I am a provider; if my client attends your center, how often will I receive updates on their progress, and what happens when they are discharged?

We are committed to maintaining open communication with providers and will provide updates as frequently as preferred.

Patients sign a release of information prior to admission so that we can begin the communication process immediately.

Upon discharge, we send a comprehensive discharge summary to the patient’s providers, detailing the treatment stay and progress toward the patient’s goals.

Understanding Our Levels of Care

What levels of care does The Kahm Center offer, and what do they involve?

For detailed information on each level of care, please visit our dedicated PHP and IOP pages.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP):

PHP is our most intensive program, available Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. This level of care is ideal for individuals who need more support than outpatient treatment can provide but don’t require 24-hour residential care. PHP combines individual and group therapy, nutritional counseling, meal support, and regular check-ins with medical professionals.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP):

Our IOP runs Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 4:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m., offering structured treatment with the flexibility to accommodate work or school commitments. IOP is suited for individuals who need more support than weekly outpatient care but don’t require the frequency of PHP.

How do I know if PHP or IOP might be the right fit?

If managing eating disorder symptoms with outpatient support alone feels increasingly challenging—such as difficulties in daily life, heightened anxiety around food, or health concerns—a more intensive level of care may be beneficial. Our intake team can assess your needs to help determine the best path forward.

For Providers: When should I consider referring a client to PHP or IOP?

Consider an intake assessment at the Kahm Center if your client’s eating disorder behaviors are intensifying, impacting their ability to engage in daily activities like work, school, or social interactions, or if they are demonstrating health concerns related to their eating disorder.

Each case is unique, so if you’re uncertain, our team is available to consult and help determine the most appropriate level of care.

START HERE

At the Kahm Center, we understand the urgency and confusion that can accompany the decision to seek help for an eating disorder. That's why we offer a swift diagnosis process. For individuals uncertain about the severity of their eating concerns, our approach provides rapid clarity. Following the initial assessment, if our specialized level of care aligns with the patient's needs, we promptly recommend the appropriate treatment pathway. Conversely, if our services do not best suit their situation, we are equally transparent in our guidance. This immediate, no-cost diagnostic service stands in stark contrast to the lengthy waits often associated with securing a first appointment elsewhere, offering a quick, decisive step towards recovery.
